About Jane

Jane is a British national based in Hong Kong. She received an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts in the US in 2014. Since then, she has published seven children’s books for The Commercial Press Hong Kong and Sing Tao Publishing Ltd. She has also published with Oxford University Press, Pearson Publishing and The Asian Review of Books, and self-published Lantau Life (2011), Houng’s (2012) and Under Lion Rock (2023).

Tragically in late 2017, Jane lost her 30-year old daughter, Rebecca Dykes to rape and murder in Lebanon. Her memoir Beirut is More Beautiful by Bike was published in Arabic by Dal El Machreq in November 2022.

Jane now devotes much of her time to charitable work in her daughter’s name (www.beckysbutton.org). In 2022, she set up a community for kidlit writers writing about violence against women (www.rebeccadykeswriters.com). The Rebecca Dykes Memorial Workshop at the Highlights Foundation in November 2022 was the first of what Jane hopes will become a regular event.

Jane was interviewed by RTHK as part of the Young Readers Festival in March 2019. You can listen to the radio interview here.
